Tic-Tac-Toe

Tic-Tac-Toe Online

Four game modes on one page: play the computer, a friend on the same device, or a friend far away.

Tic-Tac-Toe is also called Noughts and Crosses in British English and Tres en Línea in Spanish. The rules are the same everywhere: two players, a 3×3 grid, and three in a row wins.

There is nothing to download and no account to create. Besides the classic you can try Infinite, where each player keeps only their last three pieces; Gobblet, with pieces in three sizes that can cover each other; and Connect 4 on a 7×6 grid.

The four modes

  1. Classic: two players alternate X and O on a 3×3 grid. Three in a row wins; if all nine squares fill up, it is a draw.
  2. Infinite: each player has at most three pieces on the board. Placing a fourth removes your oldest, so the board never fills up.
  3. Gobblet: each player has six pieces, two small, two medium and two large. A larger piece can be placed on top of a smaller one.
  4. Connect 4: discs drop by gravity on a 7-column, 6-row grid. Four in a row wins.

Frequently asked questions about Tic-Tac-Toe

Do I need to sign up or install anything?

No. It runs in the browser on a phone or computer, with no account and no download.

How do I play with a friend in another city?

Press "New game", choose "Play a friend online" and copy the link with the copy icon. Send it on WhatsApp or anywhere else. When your friend opens it, you are in the same room and see each move live.

Can I beat the computer?

On Easy and Medium, yes. On the top level of classic Tic-Tac-Toe the computer never loses: with perfect play 3×3 is a draw, so a draw is the best you can get there. The other modes are easier to win.

What does "Tres en Línea" mean?

"Tres en Línea" is Spanish for "three in a line". The same game is called Tres en Raya in Spain, Juego del Gato in Mexico and Chile, Ta-Te-Ti in Argentina and Uruguay, and Triqui in Colombia.
